Both my wife and I grew up deeply immersed in music -- most everyone in our respective families is involved with some form of music-making. I've played the saxophone since I was in elementary school and my wife has played the flute and sung for most of her life. We want to continue our musical traditions with our children but we're concerned about our ability to upkeep our instruments or craft new ones.
For a saxophone, for instance, I constantly use reeds. I know you can manufacture those with not too much difficulty but I have no idea how. Similarly with pads on woodwind instruments -- how do we go about producing one with a proper seal over the holes that doesn't dampen the sound? Anyone have ideas on this sort of thing?
