It just occurred to me an excellent reason to use pottery for storing things, as opposed to glass or plastic, is its disposal. As discovered in the study of Terra Preta soils, ceramic pottery shards can play a big role in improving the quality of your soil. Broken glass or plastic containers have far less usefulness, and really present a health problem when you try to get rid of them. (Decomposing plastic can be a contaminant and glass shards can cause injury). So I would propose aiming to use ceramic containers wherever possible. Comments?
